About Renata
Renata Cortez-Gómez is professor/researcher at CIESAS-Mexico DF. As anthropologist, she has studied and supported indigenous women seeking medical care for their children when they become ill with infectious and chronic diseases (cancer). She is currently exploring the impact of privatization and the commodification of healthcare on Indigenous child care in Chiapas, Mexico. Her work has focused on the structural and subjective factors that influence indigenous health from a gender and critical perspective. She has collaborated with international and Mexican research teams trying to develop solutions to a variety of health issues by collaborating with communities and institutions.
